The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the people of Venezuela by delivering a fourth Humanitarian Air Bridge flight carrying 48 tonnes of life-saving emergency supplies to Caracas. The shipment, organized in cooperation with the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja Española) and humanitarian partners, is intended to assist communities affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck the country in late June.
The latest humanitarian flight transported essential relief items, including medical equipment, emergency shelter materials, hygiene kits, and other critical supplies that will be distributed through humanitarian organizations operating on the ground. The aid is aimed at supporting thousands of families who continue to face severe humanitarian needs in the aftermath of the disaster.
The arrival of the fourth air bridge mission marks another important milestone in the EU's emergency response. Since launching the Humanitarian Air Bridge in June, the European Union has established a continuous logistical corridor to Venezuela, ensuring that emergency supplies reach affected communities quickly and efficiently despite the challenging conditions. Earlier EU-funded flights had already delivered nearly 80 tonnes of humanitarian assistance before this latest shipment further expanded relief efforts.
Beyond the humanitarian flights, the European Union has significantly increased its financial assistance to Venezuela. Following the earthquakes, the EU initially allocated €5 million in emergency humanitarian funding and later announced an additional €10 million, while proposing another €10 million to reinforce search-and-rescue operations, medical teams, and expert deployments. These measures complement the €52 million already committed earlier in 2026 to address the country's ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The emergency response has also been reinforced through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, under which approximately 750 emergency responders and specialists from 18 participating countries have been mobilized. Their contributions include urban search-and-rescue teams, emergency medical personnel, satellite communication systems, medicines, temporary shelters, and emergency mapping provided through the Copernicus Emergency Management Service.
The Spanish Red Cross, working alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Venezuelan Red Cross, has played a central role in delivering humanitarian assistance. Their joint operations include deploying emergency field hospitals, medical personnel, logistics specialists, and volunteers to ensure that relief supplies reach the most vulnerable populations as quickly as possible.
European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib emphasized that Europe remains firmly committed to the Venezuelan people, stressing that the new funding and humanitarian flights will help provide food, clean water, medicines, shelter, and other essential assistance to families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
As recovery efforts continue, the European Union has reiterated that its humanitarian assistance is delivered exclusively through trusted humanitarian partners—including UN agencies, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and international NGOs—to ensure that aid reaches those most in need in accordance with humanitarian principles of neutrality, independence, and impartiality.
